About Us

      It had long been a dream of mine to open my own bar and music venue, and with Westport, Co. Mayo being the ideal location, everything finally came together in November 2019 when Lofty’s Bar Westport opened its doors. After meeting the long-time owner, Sean O’Grady, it quickly became clear that not only was this the perfect premises, but Sean was also the perfect landlord to work with.

        Just a few months later, COVID wreaked havoc across the world. The timing couldn’t have been worse, but we braved the storm and pushed on. Everything was moving in the right direction until January 2023, when I was suddenly rushed to hospital with a suspected tumour, which turned out to be a brain abscess. During those difficult months, my bar manager, Annie, kept the ship afloat, and thanks to her dedication, the bar continued to thrive while I spent weeks connected to a drip and focusing on rehabilitation.

 

          During my recovery, I stayed in touch with a bar in Paphos, Cyprus, where I had visited and performed many times over the years. The owner was ready to retire, and after my own health scare, the opportunity felt like the perfect next step in shaping the future. From there, Lofty’s of Paphos began to take shape, and in April 2023, Lofty’s of Cyprus proudly opened its doors.

            Since then, Lofty’s has continued to thrive, going from strength to strength - something clearly reflected in our glowing reviews and the steady stream of returning visitors. Our friendly team, warm welcome, perfectly poured Guinness, and unforgettable live music have helped firmly place Lofty’s on the map in the West of Ireland.

We are genuinely grateful for the incredible support we receive - not only from our wonderful local regulars, but also from the countless visitors from around the world who return year after year. Each person who walks through our doors becomes part of the Lofty’s story, and we’re proud to see how our community has grown and how our vision has become shared by so many.
