Joy Is Contagious — No Vaccine please!

People watching is one of my very favourite things, and watching happy people laughing is top of the list.  There is a special kind of magic in observing someone elses joy, not the loud, obnoxious over-the-top kind, but the genuine joy that lights up someone’s eyes or makes their face smile, not just their mouth.  It has a way of jumping from one person to the next, like a spark, sometimes without anyone saying a word.

I’ve always believed that a person’s energy can be infectious, and nothing proves that more than witnessing someone else’s happiness and feeling your own mood lift in response.

There is a quote that says something like “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”.  I am not sure that is wholly true, but I do think we can absorb the vibes and auras of the people around us.  If that is the case, then I want to spend my life around people who belly laugh, cry at really happy things not only sad, and can find beauty in little things that matter.  Because when I see someone else experience real happiness, joy, then I can feel my mood lift and my mouth widen.

Maybe Joy is like Gossip or lies…      When they are shared with others, they get bigger!.

I think that’s why I love being around people who are full of passion, excitement, or even just have a simple appreciation for Life. Their happiness lifts my spirits, makes me more hopeful, and pushes me to look for the positives in my own life. The truth is, joy is one of the few Good things in the world that multiplies when it’s shared.

So here’s to being around people who laugh loudly, who celebrate often and who encourage others.

Here’s to catching a new strain joy25 — and passing it on - If joy is contagious, I hope we never stop spreading it.
